Urban Family Educational Services was created to assist families of children with disabilities in urban communities who are in need of independent educational resources and supports. We have targeted this population because of the high numbers of families with children with Individual Education Plans (IEP’s) in urban schools as they suffer from quality instruction and equitable access to their school’s curriculum and programs. The goal of our program is to collaborate, support, and empower families to ensure that their children are receiving the most appropriate educational services to ensure academic success.
Students of color are continually being placed into special education programs and those within are currently suffering from the lack of effective programs and personnel. As special education programs are constantly developing and modifying there programs it is important for our parents to be aware of their rights as well as the resources that are available so that their children can excel academically.
